Modular Elevator Advantages

modular elevators What is a modular elevator?

Traditional, or "stick-built" elevators first need a hoistway constructed as part of the building, either from wood, steel or concrete block. Elevator components are then brought on-site and assembled in the hoistway.

The Phoenix AC3000 is an innovative patented design consisting of a welded steel hoistway structure that fully contains the elevator car, rails, controls, and drive system inside. It is assembled in our factory where quality and alignment are held to very stringent tolerances, using standard, non-proprietary components from leading manufacturers, then shipped to the job site. Once installed, it functions exactly like a stick-built elevator, and is serviced the same way.

Although designed to be a permanent part of a building, modular elevators can be relocated. We know of one customer that used their AC3000 for two years in a temporary building while a more permanent structure was under construction. They then moved to the new building and sold their elevator. Another customer used their AC3000 to provide underground construction access while remodeling subway stations and relocated it as needed to rebuild multiple stations.

Why is our modular elevator a superior alternative to stick-built elevators?

Shorter Lead Time: Your complete, customized AC3000 can be at your door ready to install 8 weeks after drawings are approved. Typical stick-built elevators have a 5-6 month lead time.

Faster Installation: Our elevators arrive completely assembled and ready for installation. Installation takes just three days, minimizing disruption at the job site. Stick-built elevators generally take about 3 weeks to assemble on-site...not including the time it takes to build the hoistway. Click here to view a video of a modular elevator installation.

High Quality: Our elevators are built under controlled factory conditions to meet strict quality and tolerance standards.

Self-supporting: The AC3000 does not need to rely on building structure for support, making it an excellent choice for retrofit projects.

Lower Cost: Our elevators are less expensive than stick built, especially when you consider that the hoistway is included in the price.

Safer Construction: We build our elevators horizontally, inside a factory. This eliminates the safety issues involved with erecting scaffolding and working outside subject to wind and other elements.
